Hi, I’m Carrie, founder of Groom at Home and proud owner of Exquisite Canine.
Like many dog lovers, my journey started simply — a deep love for dogs and a desire to give them the best care possible. Over the years, that passion turned into a lifelong mission to help other pet parents learn the skills and confidence to groom their dogs at home.
✈️ From the Air Force to Fur Babies
After serving in the United States Air Force, I shifted my focus to raising my four amazing kids — and my furry family too! My love for dogs led me to become an AKC Maltese show breeder, where I spent eight years perfecting coat care, trimming techniques, and presentation. I raised several Maltese champions and met countless families who still send updates about their happy, well-groomed companions.
When my daughter was born, I retired from showing and launched my first pet-care eCommerce brand, Doggy Bow, specializing in accessories and grooming essentials for small-breed dogs. To help my customers even more, I began teaching grooming tutorials on the DoggyBow.com YouTube channel — many of which are still available today.
Though some of those videos were filmed years ago, they continue to help new dog owners understand how to brush, bathe, and trim their dogs safely at home.

Over the past 20+ years, I’ve worked with hundreds of dogs — from tiny Maltese and Yorkies to curly-coated poodle mixes and everything in between. Each breed, size, and coat type brings unique challenges, and I’ve learned to adapt my techniques for dogs with sensitive skin, thick double coats, nervous personalities, and even stubborn attitudes!
That hands-on experience helped me develop practical methods for stress-free home grooming — no fancy equipment required. I teach pet owners how to use safe, natural products, handle common grooming obstacles, and create a positive experience for both the dog and the owner.
